One of the Live Streamed shows from London Fashion Week I managed to watch yesterday was the Paul Costelloe show which opened the event. I had seen Paul Interviewed on GMTV before the start of the show and I caught him saying that his inspiration was the Wild West. I couldn't quite get the relevance of this and expected a Doris Day "Whip crack away..." soundtrack, but instead he had Dolly Parton?
I expected to see Denim, Check shirts and leather Chaps, but far from it. Instead we had tailoring, rose trimmed sheer blouses, gorgeous metallic pieces in the form of gunmetal dresses and bronze metallic brocades (of which the coat pictured was my favourite piece), and some very wearable check pieces, skirts and a great tie up Jacket.
Paul Costelloe is obviously a name that has been around "forever" but I have never had a piece in my wardrobe, watching this show has made me want to change that, especially as his clothes are available in Department Stores across the Country. Surely this is a UK based designer that we should be supporting?
After reading many Bloggers show reports yesterday where they felt disappointed with what they had seen, I don't think anybody would not have raved about Paul's ready to wear collection, had they seen it in the flesh or watched the show via the Live Streaming.
This is one show I really would have liked to attend and I know that I won't be skipping past his Concessions in John Lewis or House of Fraser, when this collection hits stores and who knows, come next January Sale, I may be able to get that beautiful brocade Coat.
Yes your quite right, his name has been around for ever but Ive never taken note, the bubble dress and brocade coat are absolutely phenominal!!
ReplyDeleteI've never been a Paul Costelloe fan, even when a friend worked for him, but I love that shiny black dress. Glad to have you follow the LFW for us!

Paul Costelloe is Irish as am I- I am not a fan however, as he is known for his boorish (some might say misogynistic) remarks about women- for whom he designs.
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of his stuff in TKMaxx- perhaps a trip there would be worthwhile if you are interested. M
This collection is a revelation - lets hope it does translate to the high st. It is often the buyers who get it wrong - so if you don't see this in JL or HoFraser you know the buyers have played safe!
ReplyDeletebtw tippchic, I think the past collections are irrelevant so I'm sure Mrs Fab won't be going to TK Maxx to find his boorish old stuff. Misogyny - welcome to fashion!
Such a shame that Buyers play it safe and get it so wrong. Could be why those two department stores still have loads in their sale sections online.
ReplyDeleteI have always thought of PC as being mother of the bride wear as that's all you see stocked in department store. Lets see what the buyers choose but that coat is pretty wonderful looking
ReplyDeleteThis may come out twice as my laptop is playing up. I have always thought PC was mother of the bride outfit - probably because my best friends mum wore one of his suits to, two weddings.
ReplyDeleteHi there-sure looks like a gorgeous collection, I love the first dress!
ReplyDeleteStill on my travels but back soon to Spain where hopefully will be able to access yr great site (inexplicably blocked earlier!!)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday!
Lola & Nora:)
