Bohemian Spirit

Whenever I am online window shopping (which is pretty much everyday) I have began to realise there is a bit of a theme going on.
Just show me a top in white or cream that features either lace, embroidery, crochet or broderie anglaise and I fall hook, line and sinker in love with not just the prettiness, but also the ease of which a top like this can be worn.  They work beautifully with jeans and take your outfit up a notch from the usual t-shirt/jean combo and I love them with denim shorts and tan sandals on holidays and warm summer days. Perhaps there is something to being born in the 1960's that brings about a deep seated affection for a bohemien vibe. Peace man and all that!

See what I mean about styling them with your shorts? Such a great look for summer, especially if you are lucky enough to have legs like two bits of string gah!

Isabel Marant
Tess embroidered Gauze Top £315 Isabel Marant

Although the Marant would be top of the wishlist (lottery win required) I think you will agree there are some gorgeous options to achieve this look on the high street.

Luckily I have a Ecru coloured one which I wore out the other day. It has lace detail on the yoke and the sleeves, with a scattering of broderie anglaise throughout, so when all else fails, I chuck this on with jeans and with Charlie on his first day of the Easter Holidays, I tried my hardest to pose for a photo which is so so hard, I am so uncomfortable having my photo taken and I have to say I didn't realise how bad the smog was until I saw these pictures, or perhaps it is just the unskilled teenage photographer in charge of my iphone?

Top - c/o Great Plains (old)
Jeans -  Paige Denim (old)
Bag - Givenchy here
Shoes - Jimmy Choo here.

What is your favourite "throw on" top with jeans?

  1. That's a great top! A white tunic or blouse is something I don't own yet desire and need so you've reminded me to get on that! Also that bag and those shoes OH MY! <3

  2. Funny you should bring this up as I have been drawn to the same thing recently. I like the Gerard Darel Ecru Shirt you showed but that is out of my price range. But something similar is going on my shopping list. BTW, your Jimmy Choos look great on you!

  3. I'm really not sure - I have so many that I throw on with jeans but guess what I'm going to go with two (1) a Primark smock top which always makes me feel fab and very seventies and (2) an Aubin & Wills Annaside top which I chased down which makes it feel that little bit more precious! Both white like yours.

And I love your outfit here Sharron - it's just the perfect smart casual combo - I think I need to do some quick searching for some silver shoes! Love how it takes the whole look up a few notches.

P.S. Love seeing your little impromptu appearances on the blog. It's hard isn't it - this staring in to space business? :o)

  4. Those shoes....gorgeous, love love love them. I adore white tops but with two little ones, my addiction to chocolate and general lack of washing machine skills they normally end up tinged grey! I love that top on you looks fab, and if I could I would go for the J Crew style..maybe in a couple of years x

  5. oh god that bag and those shoes.... love love love! My fave is definitely the JCrew one - just gorgeous. I have a boho style By Malene Birger one that I've had for 6 years although it's cream not white. White tops randomly I tend to stay quite plain - don't know why really. Love them in the summer though xx

  9. I love those style tops also. And with psoriasis, they tend to have sleeves which means I can cover up and yet feel summery at the same time. I completely and utterly share your pain at having my photo taken for the blog. Awful isn't it? And yet, trust me! You look great ... as for those shoes .... wow!

  10. Gorgeous tops Sharron, my favourite is definitely the J Crew one & agree with you it's styled to perfection. Love your outfit post too, your shoes looks stunning. I'm also trying to put my picture on the blog more but its so hard trying to be relaxed for the pictures, I'm not a natural at all but I'm told practise makes perfect!!!

  11. Great blog post. I love this style of top and I too want the IM one please. My go to bung on top would always be my oversized white shirt or, if colder, one of my gap sweaters. I am feeling bag and shoe envy but I guess I am not alone. H xx

  17. I'm sorry Sharron I can't stop laughing at your 'headless' comment to Sue up above! Love your outfit! Have to say I do love the whole bohemian vibe and if I could rid my legs of copious amounts of veins (sorry too much info there) - I'd love to wear such a top with shorts in the summer! xx
