Fashion Headache

Not to be associated with Fashion Flu, a headcold which usually occurs in buyers/bloggers after having spent four weeks flying around the world for fashion week.  No, my fashion headache leaves me scratching my forehead and wondering what on earth to buy next, not usually a problem I encounter on any level!

Firstly I feel as though I haven't really bought anything lately.  Then I reminded myself about the £190 spent at the NAP sample sale just over two weeks ago where three pairs of shoes were purchased with a street value of well over £1,000.  See what I did there with the use of the words "street value"? That is because in my book, shoes are like drugs, an addiction of epic proportions, like handbags, oh and sunglasses. So actually I have bought "stuff" but a fortnight is a long time in fashion terms.

Secondly I really want those John Lewis culottes and Marks and the Spencer sleeveless jacket but the problem is I am off for a four day break (my daughters hen do) to Marbella in May (five weeks today in fact - yikes) and also know I am in desperate need of replacing a few items in my holiday drawer which were looking a bit shabby last year.
I even failed to take advantage of the Boden mid season sale to grab a few summer bits with a discount, I just sat back and let it pass me by, am I totally mental all of a sudden?  Since when do I not take advantage of a sale or discount?  Nutter. But saying that, I got yet another catalogue through the post yesterday offering 11% off which is probably better than the miserly 10% most of the things I wanted were reduced by in the mid season thingy!
So you see my dilemma here, do I bypass the spring wishlist and go head on into full blown summer and holiday attire?

Thirdly I still haven't got my dress for the wedding.  I have seen one I really want. It's over £500, so even with my daughters staff dizzy (Claudia speak for discount) it still equates to a lot of money without a hat or bag etc.  Can somebody please pass the paracetamol?

While this headache continues the only thing I can think clearly about is having an ebay sale to raise funds.  I will have a big sort out at the weekend. Promise. That way if I can make enough money to buy everything I need my headache will finally be gone. Won't it?

Have you had any fashion dilemma's lately?  Are you sticking with your spring wishlist or shopping early for summer?

  1. Fashion can be a headache, I agree! My headaches usually include finding something I like within budget only to find it fits terribly or creases within 2 minutes, and then special occasion dressing is a whole other level of woe. £500 is a lot, but it's for a once in a lifetime occasion, hmm. Have you thought about renting a dress?? As for buying for Spring/Summer, I would probably end up buying for both as I am weak willed... X

  2. It sounds like you need to replace your Summer stuff more than getting anything for Spring this year (you can always catch up next year but this year is special because of the wedding). And then the other thing is to buy your dress for the wedding itself. I would prioritise these 2 occasions and if the ebay funds help then all the better. Personally I spend the least for Summer clothes/stuff but good stuff that do last me and I update them if I can with different accessories each year.
I'm ahead of myself this year and bought a cashmere skirt for Winter already - mind you if the weather suddenly fails and it has done so in years past, I might have to wear it soon lol!
Good luck whatever you decide to do xx

  3. It's that time of year Sharron isn't it spring - summer, summer spring....I may have brought a few summer pieces following the lovely weather we had a couple of weeks ago as I reckon they'll be out of stock if I leave it too long!

As for your dress for your daughter's wedding is it a dress that could be worn afterwards for lots of different occasions so you can at least get your wear out of it? It's such a tough call as naturally you want something special for the occasion too as it's your baby's wedding after all!. I can't wait to see what you finally choose & I'm sure you'll know when you find 'the one'.

  4. Hi my dear!! I do so hope you snag your dress for the wedding soon, I can imagine how frustrating it is because it always seems like mission impossible to buy the 'perfect' dress for a given occasion, hang on in there and hopefully you'll be using Claudias dizzy before long!! I bought a couple of brand new v neck tees in Primark on Saturday as I know they'll be perfect for wearing with what I have. I really do have enough already in the wardrobe so I'm going to attempt to start wearing those items that haven't seen the light of day for months!! xxx

  5. I have had a general headache lately trying to work out what I really *need* as opposed to what I *want* to buy. And these Boden discounts.. hmmm.I keep hesitating, thinking a better discount might come along. Here, have a virtual paracetamol...and hope it passes soon!! xxx

  6. Oh the woes of loving clothes! My sleeveless jacket is on my way to me courtesy of my lovely Mum! Love the coulottes too - M&S had some lovely ones but are sold out online now...Surely in Marbella you'll be frolicking in a bikini and won't need any clothes? xx

  7. I always want new summer things and then find that for the amount of real summer we get it's not worth the expense. I would say buy a dress you absolutely love and feel fantastic in for your daughter's wedding and if it's one you can wear again all the better. It's a special day and if you feel really good you can just relax and enjoy it. Hope you get what you want.

  8. My yearnings are outweighing my earnings after a little mooch about town today.....so yes I am feeling your fashion headache pain too Sharron!! I will also have to resort to putting some stuff on eBay to try to off set some of my spends this month :0( The blue dress is divine.......I really hope you find exactly what you are looking for soon xx

  9. Remember, you will be looking back on those wedding pictures forever so I would splash on that and get what you really want - the blue dress is divine by the way! I possibly therefore make do if I was you with your summer stuff ( anything will look good with your neverfull, gracie and new Choo's - all about the accessories darling )

  10. It's annoying isn't it, an unlimited budget would be nice but then my house would explode with clothes...but I suppose I would have a bigger house?!! Is the blue dress the one you want for your daughters wedding...it is stunning, can you justify it with wearing it to every other wedding/ important social event for the rest of your life...plus you get a dizzy (I love that word...will be using it more often to be down with the kids!) hope your head clears and the fashion future becomes a lot clearer! Xxx

  11. Oh poor Sharron. Get the dress .. go on ... quickly! Before it's gone. Because it's going to be an amazing day ... and you want to look amazing ... and you will look amazing in that dress ... and you'll feel a million dollars ... and when you look back on the photos (and there will be soooo many photos!) you want to be happy with how you look! As for the rest of the wardrobe? Forget spring and think of summer. Your daughter is getting married in the summer ... there will be bbqs and drinks and post wedding get togethers ... you'll want new summer stuff. There you go! That's my ha'pence worth xx

  12. The blue dress is gorgeous Sharron but surely with your expertise you should be able to pick up something similar at a friendlier price? Your shoe and handbag addiction made me laugh - we all have our addictions and we know what mine is! xx

  13. I do think in summer you can get away with spending a lot less than in winter. So I would just pick up a few gems to fill the gaps in your summer wardrobe, and then concentrate on the big day! However, I think a lot of mothers of the bride do get in a frenzy over their outfit, and I can totally see why? I am sure when the time comes, I will be just as frantic! You are going to be spending a lot of money, so do choose something that will be perfect for the day, and something that you can wear many times after. The dress you are thinking about looks absolutely perfect......Elegant, stylish and understated, this is what will make you look the perfect "Mum" of the bride ! xxx

  15. Finding THE dress for the wedding will come to you as a surprise, I bet one day you won't even be looking for IT and BAM, you'll find it!

I am on a 6 month self imposed spending ban - I cannot be enticed by any of what you have put on here but OH MY GOD that cobalt blue dress is GORGEOUS

  16. Yes it really is a head ache! I couldn't tell you the last time I brought something its been that long.

I do like that dress but like you say lots of pennies... I will be feeling your pain, my eldest informed us of her wedding date yesterday, 12/09/15!

  17. Not that I am an expert but I would get the wedding day dress that you want and scrimp and save on the rest. On holiday it will be warm, you don't know anyone, and you can get by on very little. Maybe take a good look in your wardrobe and see what you have forgotten, there will be things that you don't wear much that you might enjoy again.

I too love clothes and can feel like I need to buy something - but it is not a need, it is a want.

The blue dress is gorgeous and I think you would get other opportunities to wear it in the future.
