Sunshine Stripes

<3

I've been trying to break out of the navy/ecru stripe combination of late. That is not to say that I don't love it, it's just that my stripe outfit choices have become a tad predictable. I have also had a fancy for adding a pop of yellow to my wardrobe this season, so when I saw Donna in a yellow stripe t-shirt a few weeks ago and her mention of seeing something similar in Tesco for the bargain price of £3, I couldn't resist a rummage through the supermarket sale rail whilst waiting for a prescription that week and unusually for me, I struck gold, or yellow to be more precise.

I am a big fan of yellow worn with blue, especially denim, but it also looks pretty darn good with white and black so I wore my new t-shirt the following day with a pair of black harem pants from Next and was pretty pleased with this cheap as chips daytime look (well if you don't include the cost of the sandals).

I also had a quick outfit change yesterday after leaving the house in a summer dress accompanied by bright sunshine and balmy temperatures only to return to clouds and light showers! I threw on my bargain t-shirt when I got home and realised yellow and white stripes look rather nice with grey as well!

T-Shirt - Tesco £3 similar below
Joggers - Baukjen was £59 now £41 here
Leather Espadrilles - Park Lane at Asos was £60 now £42 here but be quick because these sell out constantly and you can understand why. Think I am going to draw 2 x C's on them with marker pen!

The Tesco top may well be sold out online and instore now but you can still feed your summer stripe addiction and add a little bit of sunshine to your wardrobe as there are quite a few styles around this season, some of which are on sale.

Buy John Lewis Double Stripe T-Shirt Online at johnlewis.com
John Lewis was £25 now £7.50

Boden was £22 now £17.60

Warehouse Stripe Boyfriend Tee £15

Yellow ombre stripe t-shirtTriple stripe tee
Dash at House of Fraser was £29 now £19 Linea Weekend Triple Stripe Tee was £30 now £15

Will you be adding any sunshine stripes to your wardrobe this season?

  1. I have the Cos version of yellow/white stripe T, but find I'm not wearing it because I'm not sure it "works" with black or denim (and I'm just the wrong shape for white jeans - which would probably be best). I accessorise it with yellow necklaces. And yellow does look good with grey. But somehow the styling penny has not dropped for me. Any thoughts?

    1. I definitely think it will work with black or denim, has my picture not made you think it would or shall I never wear with those harem pants again I would probably shy away from white jeans at my size and if you feel you are the wrong shape for them, how about wearing it with smart white city shorts, cigarette pants or similar. Navy or tan chino style pants would also look good x

    2. Harems definitely VERY good on you. White jeans better on you than me because I'm pear-shaped without the embonpoint to balance me out. Do you remember Trinny & Susannah used to bang on about not mixing black/colour? I kind of agree because if I try instead to combine similar "tones" (e.g. today: pale green "khakis" with pale blue chambray shirt) the uniformity seems to smooth over my inequalities. So maybe tan trousers are the answer? Hmm. Thanks. I'll try.

  2. Wow what a bargain Sharron & like you say a great change from the standard navy & white striped we all have in our wardrobe. Plus for that price it would have been rude not to!!! ;-)

  12. I love yellow but I'm not sure it loves me back... Great score with the t-shirt!

After thinking and asking for advice (see your instagram :) I looked at the ASOS site again, saw that they restocked size 3 and decided to risk it, ordered and paid. It's my first ASOS purchase, we'll see how it works out.

  16. I was laughing like a drain at you breaking out of the navy/ecru stripes - THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M SITTING HERE IN AS WE SPEAK!!! I have got a nice coral and cream striped top too, but the good old navy and ecru will have to be thrown to the back of the cupboard for a while! :-D
